View Word Document that is not readable in your system

It happens sometimes! Your friend or associate send you a word document, you downloaded it, but found your system (PC) cannot open the file. Go searching for a system that has support for that version of MS Word. It mostly happens when you have a MS Office version prior to 2007, whereas the file sent is a 2007 onwards version. There are two options - 1) have a free software, like OpenOffice, which reads latest word files, or 2) open the file in google docs for editing, and download as rtf file (compatible to MS Word, saves as doc). Option 1 is obvious, you get it and done. My point is option 2, how to use Google Docs to read/save the file in your version. If you have a Google a/c, login. If you don't have one, register - it's free. Then goto to docs.google.com. It shows your current files saved there, if any. On the left you find a Create button, and next to it, the Upload button. Click it, select Files option and upload the above mentioned file from your system. There may be another option for confirmation of upload settings, see that "Convert documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and drawings to the corresponding Google Docs format" option is ticked, and click Start upload. Once the upload is complete, click it's name in the list. The file will open in another window. At the top of it, there is a File menu, with a Download as ->RTF option. Select it, and save it to your system. Done. If you received it in GMail, as attachment, click View next to it. It will automatically open in Google Docs in another window. Click Edit online. The file will be in edit mode. At the top of it, there is a File menu, with a Download as ->RTF option. Select it, and save it to your system. Done.
